Statistics about Education In India
Before you can understand the problems related to education in rural areas, you must know some facts about education in India.

These details are published by the MHRD – Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt Of India.

• Children under the age group of seven years and fifteen years in India have moved from 64% literacy rate to 73% between 2001 and 2011. This also talks about the raise in % from 54 to 66 and 47 to 59 on the SC and ST category.
• Similarly, 15+ years of children have improved from 61% to 69.3% growth in receiving an education. Among this, the SC and ST category kids have increased by a significant percentage, and more than 15% of the group has got an opportunity to study.

It is evident from the statistics that importance of education is understood in India. However, one must realize that kids from the rural areas are facing problems in getting good quality education even though the literacy rates have increased and SC and ST Students are getting a better
education. Still, more than seventy percent of the rural population suffers from poor education/no education at all due to the following reasons:

1. Uneducated Parents: Parents do not have the required knowledge to understand the need for education and refrain from sending their kids to school. Parent’s illiteracy has a significant impact on the girl children in the rural areas in India.
2. Lack of Proper Infrastructure: This is another main setback for education in rural areas. The schools in towns and cities have started using a smart way of teaching kids using visual display and explain practically about things in the laboratories. But, rural area kids do not even have the necessary infrastructure in place. Many places still do not have toilet facilities
for children.
3. Far away Education Facilities: Mode of transport is a big challenge when it comes to education in rural areas. Not all villages have schools, and kids must travel to long distances to reach schools. There is no proper transportation offered for children to arrive at class on time.
4. Cultural Difference: The syllabus prescribed seems to have no relevance to the life of rural people. Most of them talk about urban life and children hardly can understand these things from their education.
5. Lack of Qualified Educators: The most critical problem faced by rural areas in education is the unavailability of experienced teachers. In spite of the infrastructure, distance, etc. if kids manage to reach school, they hardly get a well-qualified teacher who can nurture them. Teachers are not motivated to stay in rural areas to educate children, and most of them prefer an urban life.

Problems faced by rural areas with education do not stop with just five points, and it is more than that. Thus rural regions in India suffer the most is not getting a proper education.
